A new brand CRAFTALE launches to connect Japanese craftsmanship to the next generation! The first release is a collaboration between the anime My Hero Academia and ukiyo-e woodblock prints from a long-established Kyoto workshop, is now available.

CRAFTALE is a project that combines Japanese craftsmanship and storytelling to create new value.

The unique skills and craftsmanship that have been nurtured in Japan over a long history are gradually losing their value with the passage of time. Rather than simply preserving them, we believe that by fusing them with contemporary works, we can pass on their charm to the next generation and to the world. By broadening the entrance to traditional crafts through anime and manga, and delivering authentic products to young people and overseas fans, we aim for the sustainable transmission of these skills.

Furthermore, we believe that collaborations across different historical periods and genres can enhance the value of each work and technology, making it a meaningful endeavor for the works themselves. This will undoubtedly invigorate the entire field of Japanese craftsmanship and contribute to raising the overall value of Japanese culture.

CRAFTALE aims to connect traditional Japanese craftsmanship and manufacturing techniques with finished products, and we hope to create a new story together with you, where those who hold these items in their hands become part of the process of passing them on to the future as inheritors.

The core themes of the anime My Hero Academia resonate with the way traditional craftspeople have passed down and preserved their techniques across generations. Kenji Takenaka, a woodblock printmaker at the long-established Kyoto woodblock printing studio Takesasado, which collaborated on this project, said, We didn't invent woodblock printing. We're just carrying on something that's been around for a long time, as a kind of space in between. My role is to connect what we've inherited. He approached the production by drawing parallels between the anime's theme and the practices of their own profession.

Considering this work as a modern cultural piece that should be preserved for the future, Takesasado created an original design entirely from scratch, depicting a battle scene between Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki, inspired by the final battle.

Inspired by the final battle in the anime My Hero Academia, the dynamism of the characters is reconstructed using the unique lines and colors of woodblock printing.
