What is The Legend of Hei?
The Legend of Hei is an animated film produced by Chinese animation directors Mutou and Hanmu Chunhua (HMCH) Studio. After the web anime series began airing on video sharing sites in March 2011, its popularity continued to rise, and it grew into one of the leading animated works representing Chinese animation.
Subsequently, a theatrical film was produced, and it became an unprecedented hit in China, grossing 315 million RMB (approximately 4.9 billion yen) at the box office.
A subtitled version was then released in Japan, receiving high praise immediately after its release. The Japanese dubbed version was released nationwide on November 7, 2020 (Saturday), and enjoyed a long theatrical run of six months.
